Heidi Ganahl Has No Plan

Touts 0% Income Tax Plan That Doesn’t Exist

Heidi Ganahl continues to lie to Colorado voters. She regularly touts her “plan” to bring Colorado’s already-low income tax rate to a flat 0% tax rate…except that there is no plan.

The Colorado Sun revealed that Ganahl has no plan to backfill the state’s coffers, with a spokesperson claiming it’s a work in progress. There’s also no way for the Governor to unilaterally zero out the income tax in Colorado.

Income tax makes up one-third of the state budget, and as the Sun reports, “Ganahl would have to slash programs and services to make up for the lost revenue — likely including education funding.”

Such drastic cut proposals call to mind the failed Kansas Experiment under Republican Governor Sam Brownback, which defunded public schools and highways and set Kansas’ economy back a decade.

“It’s red meat for the base,” said Scott Wasserman to the Sun, who leads the Bell Policy Center, “but as with a lot of the things I see coming out of her campaign, it’s not grounded in governing.”
