Top-of-the-Ticket GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Fails to Defend Extreme Positions
Denver, CO – Yesterday in an interview, GOP gubernatorial candidate Greg Lopez, who has the top line on the GOP primary ballot next month, proved completely unable to answer for his far-right positions.
On why he would control women’s bodies by banning abortion and vetoing Colorado's abortion protections when he assaulted his own then-pregnant wife, he said, “I don’t understand how you connect these two.”
When asked why he wants to ban mail-in voting when he’s reportedly voted by mail in every election in the last decade, Lopez could only say “I’ve done both” vote by mail and stand in line to vote.
When asked why Lopez made the homophobic remark that Colorado “should have a real First Lady again,” he again claimed not to understand: “I don’t know how you connected my words to that sentiment.”
“The Colorado GOP has put a far-right candidate who can’t defend his own extreme views at the top-of their ticket. Republicans are in serious trouble if this is one of the best they can offer voters this election year.” -Kailee Stiles, Colorado Democratic Party spokesperson
