Roe is Overturned by Dobbs–GOP Gubernatorial Candidates on Abortion

Lopez Caters to the Base, Ganahl Flounders on Abortion Bans

Denver, CO –  Today, the Roe v. Wade precedent protecting the right to an abortion was overturned by the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson.

Meanwhile, the Colorado GOP’s candidates for governor are staking out increasingly divisive positions on abortion bans, promising to roll back the right to an abortion in Colorado. Nearly 60% of Coloradans believe abortion should be legal.

Greg Lopez has consistently maintained he supports a ban on abortion with “no exceptions.” He has said, “it is wrong to sacrifice our children on the altar of choice.”

Heidi Ganahl continues to veil her position, saying she “supports exceptions” but that the Reproductive Health Equity Act protecting abortion is “disgusting” and she would “rip [it] up.” Voters still don’t know how far she will go in criminalizing reproductive health in Colorado.

“If Republicans take the Governor’s Mansion this election, the abortion protections Coloradans count on will become a distant memory. These out of touch candidates have no problem putting lives in danger just to enforce a narrow religious view on the total population.” - Colorado Democratic Party spokesperson Kailee Stiles
