Study: Colorado Tops Ranking of Election Systems
While GOP Candidates Continue to Spotlight Election Conspiracy Theories
Denver, CO – A new study from the Democracy Initiative Education Fund found that Colorado ranks highest in voter confidence in the election systems in the country.
Colorado’s election system has repeatedly been called the gold standard for election security and had the second-highest voter turnout in the nation in 2020 (86.5%).
Meanwhile, the Colorado GOP continues to let conspiracy theories dominate their party. This weekend, Republican gubernatorial candidate and election denier Greg Lopez doubled down on the Colorado GOP platform’s unpopular positions like eliminating mail-in ballots and claimed “people want to stand in line” to vote. Heidi Ganahl claimed we have to “restore confidence” in Colorado’s elections.
U.S Senate candidate and insurrectionist Ron Hanks questioned the validity of the electronic results of the GOP state assembly and attacked GOP Chair Kristi Burton Brown for her “disgraceful demonstration of power” when she rejected highly-requested paper ballots.
Yesterday, Republican Secretary of State candidate and embattled Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters testified against SB22-153, a bill to increase election security measures, and called it a “power grab.”
“Voters in Colorado have known for years that we have the strongest election security measures in the country. The GOP’s continued loyalty to the Big Lie shows just how far out of touch they are with Coloradans.” - Colorado Democratic Party spokesperson Kailee Stiles
